Mild and apple-like scent of Roman chamomile

Roman chamomile essential oil from Anthemis nobilis originates from England and is extracted through steam distillation of the flowers. The product is diluted to 5 percent in grapeseed oil.

Roman chamomile provides an essential oil that is light blue when fresh and can be extracted from the flower and the upper parts of the plant. The plant has a fresh apple scent and is mainly grown in France, Belgium, and Eastern Europe.

The scent is traditionally associated with calm and relaxation, as well as with irritation, impatience, PMS, and other menstrual and menopausal symptoms.

The diluted oil has traditionally been used for a soothing aromatherapy experience for children in connection with colic, irritability, diarrhea, and teething. In an aroma diffuser, it is associated with a calming sensation in connection with headaches, nervous complaints, and migraines.

Chamomile has been used throughout history by ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The Egyptians dedicated it to the sun god. A papyrus document from 2800 BC describes the historical use of chamomile in connection with skin ailments. Chamomile oil was also used in embalming. Hippocrates is said to have used chamomile as an herbal remedy. In mythology, chamomile is one of the nine sacred herbs that Wodan, the god of the underworld, gave to mortals to improve their lives.
